These tools are the foundation of the JDK. They are the tools you use to create and build applications.

Java IDL and RMI-IIOP Tools

These tools are used when creating applications that use OMG-standard IDL and CORBA/IIOP.

tnameserv Provides access to the naming service.
idlj Generates .java files that map an OMG IDL interface and enable an application written in the Java programming language to use CORBA functionality.
orbd Provides support for clients to transparently locate and invoke persistent objects on servers in the CORBA environment. ORBD is used instead of the Transient Naming Service, tnameserv. ORBD includes both a Transient Naming Service and a Persistent Naming Service. The orbd tool incorporates the functionality of a Server Manager, an Interoperable Naming Service, and a Bootstrap Name Server. When used in conjunction with the servertool, the Server Manager locates, registers, and activates a server when a client wants to access the server.
servertool Provides ease-of-use interface for the application programmers to register, unregister, startup, and shutdown a server.


Java Deployment Tools

Utilities for use in conjunction with deployment of java applications and applets on the web.
Tool Name Brief Description
javafxpackager Packages JavaFX applications for deployment. See Deploying JavaFX Applications for more information.
pack200 Transforms a JAR file into a compressed pack200 file using the Java gzip compressor. The compressed packed files are highly compressed JARs, which can be directly deployed, saving bandwidth and reducing download time.
unpack200 Transforms a packed file produced by pack200 into a JAR file.


Java Web Start Tools

Utilities for use in conjunction with Java Web Start.

jconsole A JMX-compliant graphical tool for monitoring a Java virtual machine. It can monitor both local and remote JVMs. It can also monitor and manage an application.

Monitoring Tools

You can use the following tools to monitor JVM performance statistics. The tools described in this section are unsupported and experimental, and should be used with that in mind. They may not be available in future JDK versions.
These tools are supported on all platforms except Windows 98 and Windows ME.

jstat Experimental: JVM Statistics Monitoring Tool - Attaches to an instrumented HotSpot Java virtual machine and collects and logs performance statistics as specified by the command line options.
jstatd Experimental: JVM jstat Daemon - Launches an RMI server application that monitors for the creation and termination of instrumented HotSpot Java virtual machines and provides a interface to allow remote monitoring tools to attach to Java virtual machines running on the local system.

Troubleshooting Tools

The following tools can be used for specific troubleshooting tasks. The tools described in this section are unsupported and experimental in nature and should be used with that in mind. They may not be available in future JDK versions. Some of these tools are not currently available on Windows platforms.

jhat Experimental - Heap Dump Browser - Starts a web server on a heap dump file (for example, produced by jmap -dump), allowing the heap to be browsed.
jmap Experimental - Memory Map for Java - Prints shared object memory maps or heap memory details of a given process or core file or a remote debug server.
jsadebugd Experimental - Serviceability Agent Debug Daemon for Java - Attaches to a process or core file and acts as a debug server.
jstack Experimental - Stack Trace for Java - Prints a stack trace of threads for a given process or core file or remote debug server.
Refer to the Java™ SE Troubleshooting web site for descriptions of tools, options, and other information to use in analyzing problems. The documents at this site contain suggestions about what to try before submitting a bug report and what data to collect for a report.

Scripting Tools

The following tool can be used to run scripts that interact with the Java platform. This tool is unsupported and experimental in nature and should be used with that in mind. It might not be available in future JDK versions.

Java Virtual Machine

JDK is a software development program provided by sun Microsystems. Java Development Kit or JDK comes in various version and can be downloaded free from the sun Microsystems. JVM compiler, debugger and other tools are used with JDK for developing java based application & java applets. So make sure that your JVM compiler & JDK versions are same. 

What is the Java Virtual Machine? What  is its role?

Java was designed with a concept of ‘write once and run everywhere’. Java Virtual Machine plays the central role in this concept. The JVM is the environment in which Java programs execute. It is a software that is implemented on top of real hardware and operating system. When the source code (.java files) is compiled, it is translated into byte codes and then placed into (.class) files. The JVM executes these bytecodes. So Java byte codes can be thought of as the machine language of the JVM. A JVM can either interpret the bytecode one instruction at a time or the bytecode can be compiled further for the real microprocessor using what is called a just-in-time compiler. The JVM must be implemented on a particular platform before compiled programs can run on that platform.

Tughlaqabad Fort

Tughlaqabad: Though it is widely believed that the fort city named Tughlaqabad was constructed in six years between 1321 and 1327, anyone who visited the 7 sq.km wide magnificent ruins.

The fort stretches across nearly 7km on Qutab-Badarpur road. Initially built by Ghiyas-ud-Din Tughlaq, the father of the dynasty, the structure was primarily conceived to serve both as a defense mechanism and an imposing capital synchronously. Octagonal in shape and divided into three sections, the fort’s ramparts are almost 15 meters in height. Records say that the citadel had 52 gates in the past though only 13 are seen now.

The city of Thughlakabad spread in an area of about 300 acres (121.40 hectares) and enclosed within a fortification wall is interspersed with bastions at regular intervals and gateways. The gate way complexes are quite elaborate since group of four, six or eight circular chambers about 8m (26.24 ft) in diameter and about 10 m (32.81 ft) in depth were provided to store grains for emergency. These grain silos are specific to Tughlakabad fort. The city had well-laid grid plan of roads which connected the gateways from one end to another. The housing blocks were planned along the roads. Entry to the citadel was through the city. The city was also connected with Adilabad fort, which was later made by Muhammad Bin Tughlak, son of Giyasuddin.

Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is spread over 858 sq.kms and is located in the floodplains on both sides of the Brahmaputra. Patches of mixed deciduous forests are interspersed with vast stretches of savannah grasslands, wetlands and chars of river islands formed by the shifting course of the Brahmaputra.
The park is divided into five ranges - Central (entry point at Kohora), Western (entry point at Bagori), Eastern (at Agratoli), Western-most Burha Pahar (at Ghorakati) and Northern. The first four lie on the southern side of the river while the last is on the northern bank.
A memorable way of exploring Kaziranga is on eleplant-back as these gentle creatures tread through the tall grass. The park's prized possessions, the rhinos, are usually found in good numbers grazing with deer and buffaloes.
Another option is to see the park is to take the jeep safari which is also highly recommended, as it offers the added benefit of covering a vast expanse in a relatively short span of time.
While on safari, visitors to the park are well advised not only to abide by park etiquettes but also to bear in mind its conserbation history, officially counted as the most successful conservation initiative in the sub continent in the 20th century (Kaziranga Centenary: Celebrating the Century's Greatest Success Story, 2005)
Originally established as a reserve forest in 1908, Kaziranga was declared a sanctuary in 1916 to counter extensive poaching of the rhinoceros. In 1974, the Indian Government demarcated the present area as a national park. Then, in 2007, it was declared a tiger reserve under the Central Government's Project Tiger scheme.
The Park is the abode to more than 70% of One Horned Rhinoceros in the world. Highest density of tigers' prey including the large prey biomass of tiger found in the country. Harbours more than 60% of India's wild buffalo population along with the only population of the Eastern Swamp deer and seven species of turtles and tortoises. The other important wildlife found are - Leopard, Fishing Cat, other Lesser cats, Large Indian
Civet, Small Indian Civet, Sambar, Barking deer, Hog deer, Gaur, Hog Badger, Hoolock Gibbon, Capped Langur, Assamese Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Sloth Bear, Gangetic Dolphin and Otter etc
The park also has a sizeable population of birds. Home to 25 Globally Threatened and 21 Near Threatened species of birds. Huge flocks of pelicans and rose-ringed parakeets can be spotted here besides crested serpent eagles, grey-headed fishing eagles, red jungle fowl, Bengal floricans, bar-headed geese and whistling teals.
More than 150 perennial water bodies are located inside the Park, where water level fluctuates temporally resulting in the generation of a very rich aquatic floral diversity. More than 32 species of flora have so far been identified.  More than 60 species of fishes have been recorded and is the breeding ground of many of the local species.



How to Reach : Rowraiah (Jorhat) is the nearest Airport which is 97 Kms. away and LGBI Airport (Guwahati) is 239 Kms. away. The road distances from nearest cities & towns to Kohora are : from Jorhat is 89 Kms., from Nagaon is 96 Kms., from Guwahati is 219 Kms., from Golaghat is 73 Kms. and from Bokakhat is 21 Kms.

The mass of Jupiter is much larger than Earth's. As a result, a satellite would have to move faster to keep from being pulled into Jupiter by the action of gravity.

Most asteroids orbit the Sun on orbits between Mars and Jupiter. This asteroid belt lies about 286 million miles (460 million kilometers) from Earth.

Asteroids are largely composed of rock. Comets, however, contain large quantities of ice, along with silicate grains and other solid materials.

The Sun is closest to Earth—at nearly 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) away!


A pulsar is a pulsating star that emits radio waves, X-rays, and gamma rays. Pulsars are created by neutron stars.

Alcor is a dim star in Ursa Major. The ability to distinguish Alcor from another star, Mizar, has been used as a rough test of eyesight.


Proxima Centauri is a star that lies 4.2 light-years from the Sun—that is, the distance light travels in 4.2 years, which is very far away.

The fastest star known to us is a neutron star called XTE J1739-285. It spins at an astonishing 67,320 times a minute!


A total of 57 stars figure in celestial navigation. Most are very bright, making them easy to locate in the night sky.

Laika, a mixed-breed Russian dog, was the first creature put into space when launched on the Soviet Union's Sputnik 2 on November 3, 1957.

Weightlessness causes anemia, loss of bone mass, dehydration, and a variety of other short- and long-term health problems. Scientists are studying how to avoid these issues in future space travel.

Spacecraft are shielded from the Sun's heat by the use of specially designed insulation tiles. Heat is no threat to astronauts, though sunspots can effect a spacecraft's electronic systems.


A so-called noble gas, helium does not react with other elements. Helium is a gas that has no color, odor, or taste. Helium is commonly found in the atmosphere of stars. Helium is produced in a star when atoms of another element, hydrogen, combine. This process is called nuclear fusion. Most of the helium that exists on Earth occurs in deposits of natural gas. Gas deposits in the United States supply most of the world's helium. Smaller supplies can be found in Qatar, Algeria, Russia, Canada, China, and Poland. Helium is the second lightest element. The only element that is lighter is hydrogen. Deep-sea divers breathe a mixture of helium and oxygen underwater. The helium helps to prevent divers from getting poisoned by too much oxygen. Astronomers in the 19th century discovered helium in the Sun's atmosphere. They named the element helium after the Greek word helios, meaning “sun.”

The Moon revolves around Earth at 2,281.68 miles per hour (1.02 kilometers per second).


Mercury is named for the ancient Roman messenger of the gods. The smallest planet of the solar system also shares its name with a liquid metal.

The spots observed on Uranus are thought to be storms, but they are smaller and fewer than those seen on Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune.

A rip current is a dangerous kind of tide that flows parallel to a shore, making it difficult to swim.

Aerosols are small particles suspended in the air for at least a few minutes. Dust, for example, is an aerosol, as are emissions from automobiles.

The Chinese flew kites roughly 3,000 years ago. Kites have been used in science. American Benjamin Franklin used a kite to prove that lightning is electrical.

Fossil beds in China, Namibia, and elsewhere provide evidence of complex animal life dating to 550 million years ago. In the Cambrian Period, soon after, many kinds of animals and plants appeared.


The Sun's core is extremely hot. The temperature is probably about 28,080,032 °F (15,600,000 °C).
